I spent over ten years getting really good at winning someone else’s game. Launched a strategy and design firm in 2008 when everyone said it was the worst time. Over time, I built something remarkable. International clients, industry recognition, financial rewards. All the markers said I made it.

Yet the wins felt heavier each time. The work that once energized me now drained me. A quiet voice kept asking: What game am I really here to play? I’d gotten so good at answering “How do I compete?” that I’d stopped asking “What do I want to create?”

That voice led me toward coaching. Following curiosity about human potential, I immersed myself in consciousness, presence, the inner dynamics of leadership. For the first time in years, I wasn’t competing. I was creating from a different source entirely.

But I noticed something. Leaders would leave sessions transformed, then hit organizational walls. Systems designed for who they used to be. Meanwhile, brilliant strategies failed because they didn’t account for the human readiness required to execute them.

The disciplines needed for transformation were being practiced in isolation. Strategy without consciousness. Leadership without strategic context. Each valuable but incomplete.

This observation changed how I understood my own journey. The MBA, design thinking from RISD, building a strategy firm, deep dive into human transformation. These weren’t random chapters. They were pieces gathering toward a unified whole.

This insight became Clapp & Co. Not another consultancy or coaching practice, but the integration of what’s usually kept separate. Strategy that accounts for consciousness. Leadership that embodies vision. Energy dynamics that activate both.
